Get ready for a new buzzing opportunity
Nervous? That's normal. We'll help you get ready, one step at a time.
Six short steps, from your first application to your first day.
1. Get your details ready
Write down your phone number, email and the days and hours you can work.
Use an email address with your name in it. Check it every day while you are applying.
Pick two adults who are not family, such as a teacher, coach or neighbor, and ask if you can list them as references.
2. Make a simple resume
No work history is fine. List school, clubs, sports, volunteering and anything you help with at home.
Keep it to one page and check the spelling twice.
Use the free resume builder on this site and print a few copies.
3. Apply the smart way
Send five or more applications in the same week.
Answer every question on the application, even the optional ones about your schedule.
A few days later, visit or call and politely ask for the hiring manager.
4. Get ready for the interview
Arrive ten minutes early, dressed neatly, with your phone put away.
Practice out loud: tell me about yourself, why do you want to work here, what hours can you work.
Look the person in the eye, speak clearly, and have one question ready to ask them.
5. When you get the job
Ask what to bring on your first day. Employers ask new hires for ID to prove they can work.
Under 18? Some states ask for a work permit, so ask the employer what they need.
Show up on time, ask questions when you are unsure, and keep your phone away during your shift.
Stay safe
Never pay to get a job, and never give bank details before you are hired.
Tell a parent or guardian where you are applying and interviewing.
If something feels wrong, leave and tell an adult you trust.
16 or 17? Get ready for your first job. 🐝Learn whether you need a work permit, how to get one, and what to know before your first shift in Texas or California.
Still in school and looking for your first paycheck? Start here.
Tips for applying to jobs as a teen: checking the hiring age, working around school, getting there, what to put on a first resume, the interview and staying safe.

No jobs to list yet? You still have plenty to put on the page.
A first resume is one page that shows you are reliable, can learn and can work with people. School projects, volunteering, activities and things you do at home all prove that. Here is how to write each part, with a sample you can follow.
What to put on a resume when you have not had a job
1. Start with the basics
Your name, city and state, phone number and an email address with your name in it.
One or two lines saying the kind of job you want and when you can work.
Your school and the year you finish, or the training you completed.
2. School projects
Pick one or two projects where you had a clear part: you led the group, did the research, built something or presented.
Say what you did and what came of it: "Planned the tasks for a four-person team and finished a week early."
Classes count too: a business, cooking, shop, computer or health class is training an employer can use.
3. Volunteering
List it like a job: what you did, where and for how long.
Food pantries, church or community events, cleanups, helping coach younger kids and tutoring all count.
Use numbers when you can: "Packed about 100 boxes each Saturday."
4. Activities
Sports, band, clubs, student council and faith or youth groups show you turn up and work with a team.
Add any role you held: captain, section leader, treasurer, the person who organized the schedule.
Two or three strong ones are better than a long list.
5. Transferable skills
These are skills you already use that a job also needs.
Watching younger siblings shows responsibility. Handling money at a fundraiser shows you can run a register. Helping at a family business is customer service.
Speaking two languages, being on time, following instructions and staying calm when it gets busy are all skills. Write them down.
6. Finish it properly
Keep it to one page, in a plain font, with the same style for every heading.
Only write what is true. An interviewer may ask about any line.
Check the spelling twice, then ask a teacher or parent to read it.
Turn everyday things into resume lines
Instead of
I babysit my brother.
Write
Care for a younger sibling after school three days a week, including meals and homework.
Instead of
I was in a group project.
Write
Organized tasks for a four-person class project and presented the results.
Instead of
I play soccer.
Write
Varsity soccer, two seasons. Practice five days a week while keeping up with classes.
Instead of
I helped at church.
Write
Set up and served at monthly community meals for about 80 people.

Teen Work Guide: Ages 16–17
Do you need a work permit, how do you get one, and what should you know before your first shift? Pick your state.
Official guidance reviewed October 18, 2026.
Do I need a work permit?
Usually no. Texas does not require a work permit for most jobs at 16 or 17.
If an employer asks for proof of your age, the Texas Workforce Commission can issue an optional Certificate of Age.
Some jobs are still off limits
At 16 and 17 you still can't do hazardous jobs, such as driving on public roads for work, running forklifts or cranes, roofing, demolition, or using power saws, meat slicers and bakery mixers.
A few of these have exceptions for apprentices and student-learners. Ask your employer if you are not sure.
Hours and school
Texas law does not limit the hours or times of day that 16- and 17-year-olds can work.
You still have to follow Texas school attendance rules. A job can't replace required school days.
Share your class schedule so your shifts fit around school.
This guide covers ages 16–17. Different rules apply to younger workers. Requirements can change; confirm your situation with your school or the appropriate state agency. NewBeeJobs provides educational information and does not issue work permits.

Listings are for information only. We do not guarantee that a job is open, that you will be hired, or that the pay, hours or hiring age shown are current. Hiring ages vary by position and location. Always confirm the details on the employer's own application.
Your information
We collect what you type into our forms (job alerts, postings, sponsor requests, feedback and reports) and count clicks on employer buttons without storing your IP address. The resume builder and gig application stay in your browser. We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising.

beebuddy answers from scripted replies first and uses AI only when none match. AI can make mistakes and gives general guidance, not legal, medical or financial advice. Do not type Social Security numbers, bank details, ID documents or other sensitive information.
For employers
Posting is free during our introductory period. If we add paid features, we will tell you in advance, postings you already have will not suddenly become paid, and you will never be charged unless you explicitly agree first. Age
newbeejobs is for people 16 and older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you are under 18, talk with a parent or guardian before you apply, interview or accept any job or gig.
